My Creative Inspiration

I believe creativity is what makes you.. you. We all are creative and unique in our own special ways. It affects who you are and the way you interact and communicate with people. For example: an artist would know how to best express their feelings to the world through their art work. Even as a normal human being.. we are always being creative in our everyday lives. Take a second and think about it ..you wake up in the morning and have to get ready and dressed to go to school. Your unique creative thinking plays a major role in choosing what dress to wear or how to put together many different pieces of clothing and accessories ..defining your signature style. You probably go through your closet and say, "hmmm i feel like dressing up today" or "ummm.. should have done my laundry last night..oh what the hell, comfy it is" and move on to do your hair and make up.
Even if you disagree with the dressing up part, im sure you'd agree with me on how creative we all are when it comes to explaining your prof why you were late to class.

These little things are what defines you.

here is a quote that came to my mind when you ask.. "What does creativity mean to me"..

"With any piece of art, you see more of yourself than you do the artist."

like said above, i believe we all look at things with our own eyes, our own perspective.. and what we take in depends on what we believe in and who we are..

Creativity - up front and Personal

i loveeeeeeeeee being creative and to speak my own mind.  i believe i am really creative and spontaneous.. Whether painting or writing poems or coming up with rap songs with your friends or designing my room or whatever it is. I get inspired by everything i come across in life. Everything i do has a little of everything i am.

and right now i feel like writing a short poem about creativity..

creativity is infinity times two
because you do what you want to do
and thats what really makes you.. you
its in your mind and in your soul
your imagination is your signature for sure.

the way you understand what this poem is about, depends on who are you..
Going back to the quote i shared earlier.. you see a little of you in everything you come across

Creativity in My Future

By now im sure you know how much creativity is important in my life.. it is something that showed me how to express myself to this world..

the ways i love being creative and unique is by painting and writing and my most recent passion.. Fashion..

by writing my heart out and painting my feelings out and expressing my mood out through fashion ..to this world has given me so much confidence over the years..

it has become a part of myself..
this creative soul inside of me is sure to be reflected on the children who i would be working with in the future.. i would encourage children to be creative and nurture confidence.

The word of the week is CREATIVITY.
Schirrmacher and Fox (2009) define creativity as, “the ability to see things in new ways or combine unrelated things into something new” (Schrrmacher and Fox, 2009, p. 364).
now show me your creativity and tell me what you see in the pictures below =)
I would like to share with you all some very interesting pictures ..

call me crazy but i see HEARTS everywhere =)

Instant Sculpture - 3D Art Work - Forming the Unexpected!

So for this week, we had to create a 3D instant sculpture from objects found around the room. When i looked around the room for inspiration, i found a stack of ECE books from previous semesters. Right away, i knew i wanted to create something with the books. I had a book in my hand and i kept flipping through the pages thinking what to do with them and accidentally i dropped the book and when it feel to the ground, few of the pages had folded between the book and that's when the light bulb above my head turned on! Right away i started folding the pages of the book and started creating the unexpected. And Voila!

At first i thought i was creating a flower but as i started stacking up the FLOWERS together, i realized i was building a building.
well, a very girly flowery building i must say .. =)

Word of the Week --> well i was debating between Mass/Volume and Balance. According to the text book, Mass/Volume: refers to a solid, three-dimensional body that had height, length and width. Balance: the result of how space is used. " (Schirmacher, & Fox, 2009).

Let me know about what you think in the comment sections =).

Fine Art Critique

La mort d’Elaine – Homer Watson

I chose the painting, 'La Mort d'Elaine' for my art critique. This oil painting on canvas was created in 1877 by Homer Watson.
I feel like the overall dark colours in the painting, evokes some serious emotions. Feelings like sadness and loneliness, but at the same time, there is also a ray of light coming from the 'heaven' above, which to me I think is some kind of a metaphor for hope, or peace. This brings me to the next question, "What is the artist trying to say?"
From looking at the picture, in my opinion, it looks like Watson has tried to show that the death of Elaine was a quite and peaceful one. Even though, overall it is a very sad piece of art, by looking at the hint of the ray of light from 'up above', it makes you feel like there is always hope. Also, it makes me wonder who Elaine is. If her death was so significant that it had to be painted, then why is the funeral not big and festive? There is only a guy taking the dead body of Elaine out into the water. This makes me want to know who she was, was she abandoned? How did she die? Where is her family? What did she do for the people that made her death famous?
Like I mentioned above, even though the painting’s overall image is sad, the ray of light from up above gives some kind of positivity to the image. And it makes me feel like even though there are dark days we all might go through, there is always a window of hope that we all would like to reach for and believe in.
My first impression of the painting was that I do not like how it gave off sadness and negativity. Even though paintings reflect the emotions and feelings of the artist and it is entirely up to them to decide what emotions they want to express, I am not a fan of ‘sad paintings’. And especially since paintings have the great ability to evoke emotions from within its admirers, I think that all paintings should be about positive messages, happiness, love etc. and not sadness and depression. Even though most the people out there would disagree with me, I truly believe that we all are great influence on each other, so why not be a source of positive influence in someone’s life?
Word of the Week
I would say that the perfect art word to describe this picture is Shade. Schirrmacher and Fox (2009) states that “adding black to any colour darkens its value and results in a shade” (Schrrmacher and Fox, 2009, p. 364). They believe that colours have personalities and any dark colour adds "value" to the art work.

Looking For Patterns

first i would like to start off by saying that i am the biggest photo freak out there! i love taking pictures of everything and anything.. recently i have been taking my camera with me everywhere.. even when im just home and if i notice something cool or unusual or if i had cooked a meal or baked cupcakes.. whatever it is i love taking pictures of it and posting it on my blog.. some people think its annoying and i need to get a life.. but heyy this is my hobby and i dont know.. just the thought that i can capture something and frame it gives me some kind of empowerment.. and taking this back to my first post.. about what creativity is.. i talked about how everyone looks at this world with their own perspectives .. with their own eyes.. i feel like by looking at my pictures.. people would know how the world looks like to me..

coming back to this post.. i must say i was really excited to do this post.. all i had to do was look back through my albums and look for patterns ..

now before looking for patterns.. lets look at the definition

what is a pattern?

Schirrmacher and Fox (2009) define pattern as, “a mark or design that is repeated in some recurring sequence” (Schrrmacher and Fox, 2009, p. 364). In other words, when a design is repeated more than once, this creates a pattern.

here are some pictures that i think that fits into the definition..

this picture was taken when i was going back home after first year of university..  it takes 5 hrs (by car) to travel.. and i had to keep myself entertained..  ofcourse i took my camera with me..
pattern: do you see the ring of pattern that i see?

i spy in my little eyes..
pattern of eggs
i spy in my little eyes..
pattern of cupcakessss!
that was my FIRST time baking cupcakes!
this was when one of my friend told me about 'T-SHIRT Reconstruction'.. there were a lot of ways to do it.. but since it was my first time.. i kept it simple.. if you guys are interested you should check out this video below..

ahhh my fav! chocolate danish from tim hortons!
im craving one right now!
i loveeeeeeee food.. especially the way its presesnted.. who wouldnt want a bite of that?!

i got that gliter nail polish from forever 21.. n i just had to post a pic of it..
bling bling!
i think the way my fingers are lined up .. it forms a pattern.. what do you think?!

this one was when we took a trip to AGO..
that is some creative interior designing
no one can miss the pattern in this picture ..

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I chose to watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.  I know why this movie would be considered as an art film. I felt that the story line of this movie was really confusing. I appreciate the effort of the director who had portrayer such intricate ideas into a film. The story line of this movie is what makes it so different from other commercial films. Although there are parts of the movie, like erasing the memory of an ex, that is surreal, (or maybe it is possible! Who knows..) the basic plot can easily be related to a lot of people in real life.
Watching this film was like taking a trip inside the director’s mind. It shows how creative a person can be. It’s especially hard to bring out your inner thought onto the screen, in that case, I must say the director (and team) has done a great job!

When it comes to picking an art word to describe this film, i cannot fit it all into one word. Hence i would say the Words of the week are: Creativity: because there is a lot of creative thinking involved, and Colour: because the visual images and the cinematography of this film has really captured my thoughts, and Shade: because shade is something which has personality, and i would say that the overall colour and shade of this movie has created a personality of one of a kind.

Collaging with Scissors

Like i've mentioned in my first post, i am really into clothes and fashion and styling. i knew right away about what my activity was going to be about!
Clothes!
In a way, dressing and personal style is kind of like art too. You have to get inspired, you get to show your mood through the colours you choose to wear. Like in a painting, when a painting is dark you could describe the mood of the painting as sad. Like wise, we can express our mood through the colours we wear. Interesting Fun Fact: Researchers have stated how men get turned on by the colour red. And hence red is known to represent passion.
In a way we all express our personality, our values that shapes our identities through the clothes we choose to wear. At a level, the type of clothing we wear can also reflect our socio-economic status.
Hence, when i was thinking of what is the best way that showcases our identity, i choose clothes.

Recently i came across this website called Polyvore (http://www.polyvore.com/) where you can create online collages of your daily wears, or put any type of clothing together. you can even shop the outfits you put together. it is a fun way to kill time and explore your own style. i didn't really know what my style was until i started experimenting and putting together pieces that i like. Some of my friends have also started using it and its a fun to get to know each others style.

The activity i put together is very simple and a fun way to kill time.
-go to: http://www.polyvore.com/
-sign up (its free!)
-put together your outfit for the day
-compare your style with your friend's (now you'll know what gift to get her for her birthday! and this time she might actually like it).

Here are some of the outfits that i put together.

Word of the Week
For this blog, i have decided that since its about clothing, just one word cannot define it. Colours (including complementary), patterns, shape and shade all make up clothing.

Grocery Shopping with a Twist
I chose vegetables as my category of food. Here is the list of 15 different types of vegetables that i can think of:
-Beans
-Broccoli
-Cabbage
-Carrot
-Celery
-Cucumber
-Eggplant
-Peppers(green/red)
-Lettuce
-Onion
-Radish
-Spinach
-Tomato
-Zucchini
-Potato

Below are 3 of the veggies that i sketched =D ..

The word of the week is Line. Schirrmacher and Fox (2009) define line as, “visible mark made by an artistic tool” (Schrrmacher and Fox, 2009, p. 364). You can see how the lines that i created using a pencil have formed into a set of lines creating what i intend to.

Pretend Play and Magical Thinking

From all the child development classes n PSY 101, I believe we all use the right side of the brain for creative thinking and imagination.

For this blog post, I would like to talk about Miss.Blush

Meet miss.Blush.
She is smarter than human brains.
But when she falls sick,
It’s us humans who bring her back to life.
Lately she has been giving me a lot of trouble.
Well I can’t blame her. I forget to put her to bed every night.
and now she seems very grumpy..
with the helicopter-like sounds shes been making,
It’s especially tough to keep her quiet at the library
Or should I say shes an attention-seeker?
Because she sure knows how to turn heads

The word of the week is definitely Creativity since i have given personality and characteristic to a non-living thing and brought it to life.

Guerilla Art Blog

There is nothing more inspiring than reading something optimistic. When you read it, for a second it makes you forget all your worries and gives you this unexplainable feeling that makes you believe you can conquer and over come any hardship.

Here are some of my favorite quotes that brings up my soul and puts a smile on my face..

-Miracles happen to those who believe in them. Bernhard Berenson.
-If you are going to walk on thin ice, you might as well dance.
-Throw back the shoulders, let the heart sing, let the eyes flash, let the mind be lifted up, look upward and say to yourself ... nothing is impossible! Norman Vincent Peales.
-Whether you think you can or think you can't.. you are right.
- Breathe.

For my Guerilla Art Blog, I decided to be the source of inspiration in a stranger’s life. I posted the above five quotes in five different areas around the campus. Hopefully, people who take their time to read the quotes will walk away with a smile on their face =).

My Inspiration? my roommate!
she has posted all these inspiring quotes on her wall and whenever i walk into her room, i can literally feel my spirits lift up.
I believe that no matter what hardship you go through in life, when you are around positive people.. it helps you believe in yourself and that you can do whatever it takes.
I wanted to take this idea and extend it to the outer world and help up lift many other spirits.

Spread the joy.

 We Want ǝƃuɐɥɔ!
1 word, 2 meaning, Many Changes

For the Community Arts Project, my group members and i chose to advocate for one of many isssues around the world - Poverty.

It's 2011, People have stepped foot on Moon. People have invented so many new technologies to help ease our lives. People have a wide range of Educational degrees to pursue. People shop everyday! and People complain about what they don't have, in stead of being thankful for what they do have.

On our way to work/school do we notice homeless people begging for some change?
do we take a minute to toss some change to them?
or do we walk by really fast thinking they might attack us (yes i do that)

from a personal perspective, when ever an homeless person approaches me for some change, i pull my bag closer to me and say No, sorry and look away.
most the time i have said not so nice things about them when i am talk to my friends about the guy who just asked us change.
i say, if you weren't a high school drop out, you wouldn't be begging for change.
but at other times, when i do feel like doing something for them, i buy them food. I tell my friends, never give money to homeless people because you know its going straight to buying smokes/drugs/alcohol.
so in stead, i always buy them food/cofffee/donut ..
i seriously don't know what i have come to such conclusions about homeless people and i don't know why i'd rather buy them food instead of giving them change.
But by the end of this assignment, i had developed a whole new perspective about them.

Now when i am approached by a homeless person asking for Change, i wonder what kind of Change (in society) can really help him.
education?
welfare?
shelter?
I have come to the realization that, though they are asking for change (as in $ ), i wish i can throw in some change (as in a place to live, a place to work etc.)
What is your definition of Change?
I have also learned that just because they are living on the streets, it doesn't make them homeless. there is a reason behind it. And just because someone is living in an apartment/house with more than a job.. can be called "rich". There are people who have more than one job and still live under the poverty line.
There are such people under the poverty line, earning a low income, and still having to take care of a family.
The only difference between them and the people on the streets are, they have education, qualification, work experience (among lot of other things)

A lot of governmental and non-governmental organizations agree with this. Basically, they believe that, countries with high education rate (that is, citizens of that country on an average has a valid/decent degree) have the lowest poverty rate. Tarabini (2010) outlines the key link between education and poverty in her article Education and Poverty in the Global Development Agenda: Emergence, Evolution and Consolidation. It is believed that education has individual, social and economic benefits (Tarabini, 2010). And not until the 90's "education became on of the priority strategies in the global fight against poverty" (Tarabini, 2010). A lot of organizations/Stakeholders are "emphasizing" that education is "the key strategy in the fight against poverty" (Tarabini, 2010).

So as an inspiring ECE, my group members and i have come up with some strategies that we could include in our classrooms in helping families (in our classroom) who are living under the poverty line.

-we can start a breakfast/lunch club - for children and their parents to come in and enjoy delecious fresh healthy meals
-as an ece, we can all try and use alternative (natural) materials in our classrooms
-we can educate children about the 3 R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) - we can ask children to bring in used books or toys to share with their friends who cannot afford it, we can use recycled papers and other materials used in class
-and for parents, we can help them be aware of different resources or support systems - for example: for financial assistance

By implementing these strategies into our classrooms, we are not only helping children and their parents who are living under the poverty line, but at the same time, we are educating children to value and share what they have with others and to help educate children simple ways to value our environment.

As an inspiring ECE, know that you play an important role in reducing world poverty!
we are bringing change into their world .. One child at a Time.
